RUNNING OUT OF SUMMER IDEAS? TRY THESE 6 BALLOON GAMES KIDS WILL LOVE

Summer is winding down, but if your kids still have all the energy, you’re not alone. Whether you’re counting down to school or just trying to get through the afternoon, these balloon games are a lifesaver!

With just one balloon and a little space, you’ll have everything you need to burn energy, spark laughter, and sneak in some learning. And the best part? No prep. No mess. Just fun.

Balloon games are great because they:
✔️ Teach gross motor skills
✔️ Improve focus and coordination
✔️ Boost hand-eye coordination
✔️ Strengthen motor planning
✔️ Encourage listening and quick reactions
✔️ Create so many giggles (and memories!)

1. Balloon, Balloon, Don’t Touch the Ground

A classic — and for good reason!
Kids tap the balloon in the air and try to keep it from touching the ground. Add a challenge: can they do it without using their hands?

2. Balloon Volleyball

Stretch a string or ribbon across the room or yard to act as a “net” and take turns hitting the balloon over it. No net? No problem — just imagine one!

3. Balloon Target Toss

Set up a few baskets, bins, or laundry hampers and have your child try to tap or toss the balloon into them. You can assign each target a point value or color for extra fun.

Bonus ideas:

  • Call out a color target for them to aim for

  • Use masking tape on the floor to create zones

4. Balloon Balance Walk

Can your preschooler balance a balloon on their hand (or head!) while walking across the room? This game challenges focus and control — and always brings a few giggles when the balloon escapes.

Make it harder by:

  • Adding obstacles

  • Walking backward

  • Balancing on one foot between steps

5. Balloon Freeze Dance

Turn up some music and let your child dance and bop the balloon around. When the music stops, they freeze in place — no matter what! Can they keep the balloon from falling while they freeze?

This game is great for:
✔️ Listening skills
✔️ Rhythm and movement
✔️ Self-regulation

6. Color Match Pop

Use different colored balloons (or add small colored dots/stickers to them). Call out a color, and your child must find that balloon and bop it in the air, while ignoring the rest!

Why it’s awesome:
✔️ Color recognition
✔️ Listening and reaction
✔️ Quick thinking + movement
